MUMBAI—Aamir Khan will be treating his audience to a never-seen-before avatar in “Secret Superstar.” He is playing music director Shakti Kumar, and it was director Advait Chandan’s vision to have Khan portray the quirky character composer.
The thought was backed by Aamir Khan, who pushed the envelope and gave a series of a screen test to convince co-producer and wife Kiran Rao and the director. Buzz is that he mixes Nadeem and Anu Malik for this character!
Said Khan, “I had already liked the script a lot, then one day Advait asked me to do Shakti Kumar’s part. I told him that I could not imagine myself doing that role. Even Kiran felt the same, and so I decided to do a screen test first.”
Khan, however, nailed the part in a series of screen tests that left both Chandan and Rao awestruck. An incredulous Advait stated, “Can you believe it? I actually screen-tested Aamir Khan for my first film!”
The film is slated to release in Diwali and stars Zaira Wasim. Produced by Khan and Rao with Zee Studios, it has music by Amit Trivedi.
